The Passing of Our Founding Director

Littleton, Colorado, USA - May 23, 2017 Just over one month ago, Ronald C. Clute, Ph.D., the founding director of The Clute Institute, unexpectedly passed away. Dr. Clute’s dedication to the Institute has been essential to its success and continued growth, and his guidance will be forever missed. Moving forward, the Institute is now directed by Dr. Clute’s wife and co-founder, Diane Pielat-Clute. She is an experienced classroom teacher, holding a Bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Special Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. The Institute will continue to operate as normal. We thank those who have already reached [...]

#GoOpen Campaign- Supporting Open Access

On Sunday, October, 29, 2015 the United States Department of Education announced a new campaign encouraging schools to use educational materials that are openly licensed. The organization discussed the launch of #GoOpen in a blog post on October 29. The proposal “requires educational materials created with federal grants to be openly licensed so that any school has access”. This is great news to the open access community because if passed, the regulation could require publications created with department grant funds, to be open access. Supporters of this campaign argue many benefits including cost savings for the districts by freeing up money [...]

Download Rates for Clute Institute Journals

Recently, we reviewed our download statistics for all of our published research. We wanted to determine which articles have been downloaded the most since being published on our site. Our journal hosting software enables us to track these metrics. Many authors find this data valuable in determining the significance of their work. The following is a list of the top ten articles downloaded from our website. When we converted to open access in 2011, we posted every article we've published online. These download rates reflect the number of downloads as of September 11, 2015: 1) Williams, Carrie. “Research Methods.” Journal of [...]

Clute Conferences Now Blind Peer Reviewed!

We at the Clute Institute are excited to announce a blind peer reviewed option for papers submitted to our conferences. This endeavor will increase the quality of papers presented as well as create a better experience for our attendees. Papers submitted to our conferences have always been reviewed for appropriateness, using an in-house review process. Beginning with our Las Vegas International Business and Education Conferences in October 2015, authors have the option to submit their paper through the blind peer reviewed process. As always, we expect both reviewers and authors to abide by our stringent Code Of Publication Ethics (found here). [...]

Open Access Publishing

So what exactly is open access publishing?? A few days ago, we received a phone call from a loyal customer of ours. He had one simple question without a simple answer: what is an open access publication? It was brought to our attention that many people do not understand what the difference is between open access and subscription-based journal publications. Over the next few weeks, we will discuss what exactly the open access movement is and the benefits of going open access. The availability of knowledge to the academic world is a core part of the Clute Institute and we hope [...]

Update: Cabell’s Directories

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]any universities use Cabell's Directories as a source for scholarly publishing information. Until recently, every journal we publish could be found in this directory. However, starting in December of 2014 Cabell's removed hundreds of open access journals for reevaluation, our journals included. We were not told of our removal until afterward. As instructed by Cabell's, we have reapplied each of our journals for inclusion and are awaiting their response. As seen in Cabell's public statement (found here), this reevaluation process should be completed by the end of 2015. We apologize for an inconvenience this may cause, and know that we are [...]

Suspected Author Misconduct in Clute Journals

Suspected cases of author misconduct in our journals have recently been brought to our attention. All manuscripts suspected of containing author misconduct have been retracted, pending an internal investigation. In response, we are updating our Code of Publication Ethics and improving our regulations regarding plagiarism and author misconduct. Additionally, we are utilizing plagiarism-scanning software to further protect our authors from accidental author misconduct as well as assist in flagging larger issues within a manuscript. We are in the process of adding a new page to our website addressing author misconduct and including resources on how to write a successful research manuscript. [...]
